INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR TO GENERAL A.C. WEDEMEYER: "To General Al Wedemeyer with pleasure and high regards for his services to the U.S. in China, and a sincere "thank you" for telling the J.C.S. and Vandenberg that I should be a candidate to command the Airlift to Berlin in 1948. Bill Tunner." Tunner had run the Himalayan airlift ("the Hump") which supplied Wedemeyer's forces in China. When the Berlin Airlift began Wedemeyer wrote a letter to Gen. Hoyt Vandenberg, Chief of Staff of the Air Force, strongly suggesting that Tunner take it over. With Wedemeyer's bookplate.
