John Smith's map first published in 1612 (more widely disseminated in 1624); it was not superseded until Augustine Hermann's map in 1673. The Smith map is the first printed map.....

This map offers very fine detail: French and American units are labelled; the headquarters of Washington and Rochambeau are shown lower left. Note the allies' system of trenches just south of town. Wooldridge says this is the only map.....
